Women Empowerment

women are integral constituents of the society, it is natural for both of them to seek, and get, equitable treatment in all social interactions. There is, however, a growing perception that women have historically remained in a position of disadvantage in many respects.

Gender gaps have been observed in terms of rights, access, and control of resources and economic opportunities on one hand and decision-making, power and political representation on the other. Gender equity is, therefore, an important objective for human development. The women belong to minority and tribal communities are the most disadvantaged sections of the society. As women they are three times discriminated, once because of the sex, second because of the caste and third because of their religion.

As women from marginalized sections of the society, they bear the brunt of poverty. Gender discrimination is highly practiced among minority communities especially in the areas of education, decision making and ownership of property.  Through our programmes we respond the problems faced by them. Our flagship programmes like SHGs we continually help women for the development.Through SHGs livelihood and entrepreneur programmes are initiated.

Girl children are though given opportunities to pursue their education, they continue till matriculation. Higher education is not encouraged because of the early marriage practice. Political representation is almost nil because of the family pressure and low educational status. Domestic violence on women is increasing day by day and it is considered as common and natural in the society. Because of low level of human rights awareness among men and women, the rights women are not adequately respected.

Women SHGs and Self Help Cooperatives have contributed towards empowerment promoting conditions for women to move from positions of marginalization within household decision making process and exclusion within community, to one of greater centrality and inclusion of voice.
